Home > Youth Programs > Natives Count

Natives Count is an after school math-focused program. The primary goal of the program is to increase the students' math skills, and secondary, improve their reading skills. MCC strives to incorporate native values into the classroom.

  • Conducted by a certified teacher who is supported by a team of tutors.
  • A short math lesson is conducted by the teacher to reinforce math skills and to build upon strategies taught in their elementary school.
  • The students work with their coaches on areas such as number order, addition, subtraction, fractions, and more!
Transportation is provided to students from Jane Addams, Hawthorne, Cleveland, and Rosa Parks Elementary. Students from other schools are able to attend depending on classroom space, however, transportation is not provided to the program from other schools. Transportation is available from the MCC to home, within MCC bus boundaries. The program runs Monday-Thursday from 3 pm to 5 pm.

In an effort to provide the best resources possible, the After-School Coordinator and teacher frequently meet with local specialists and work closely with our six schools' administrators in discussing skills and techniques that can be used to improve the skills of our students.

Tutors are from the community.

*Activities, snacks, and transportation (within MCC bus boundaries) are free.
